What is Pre-Orientation (Pre-O)?
Pre-O is designed to support African American, Native American, Hispanic and other new students from historically underserved populations with their transition to Carolina. Pre-O offers students the opportunity to establish networks of peer support while gaining familiarity with important academic, social, and cultural resources.

How do I get invited?
Students will receive an invitation to register in July, 2008.

How much does it cost to attend Pre-O?
There are no fees or charges associated with Pre-Orientation.

What's the difference between Pre-O and CTOPS?
Both programs enable students to learn more about the Carolina community, however Pre-O specifically targets ethnic minority students and other students from underserved populations to prepare them for successful entry into their first year of college.

If I am attending the August CTOPS can I also attend Pre-O?
You may participate with Pre-Orientation after you complete your CTOPS session. Remember, you must complete CTOPS. Please notify Diversity & Multicultural Affairs if you are attending the August CTOPS so that arrangments can be made for a Pre-Orientation Counselor to meet you when CTOPS has concluded.

If I am attending Freshman Camp can I also attend Pre-O?

Yes. Please notify Diversity & Multicultural Affairs if you plan to attend Freshman Camp and it will arrange for a Pre-Orientation Counselor to meet you when Freshman Camp has concluded.

If I attend Pre-O, when do I move into my residence hall/Granville Towers?

Special arrangements will be made for you to move in to your on campus residence hall or Granville Towers. Please check back here for move in information for 2007.

Can my parents attend Pre-O?
Absolutely! Diversity & Multicultural Affairs has arranged special sessions for parents that give them an oportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Carolina community.

Who should I contact if I have questions?
Please contact Diversity & Multicultural Affairs at (919) 962-6962 or visit http://www.unc.edu/minorityaffairs.
