If you wish to apply for campus housing, submit the online housing application by May 15, 2009 to be included in the first group of students to receive housing assignments. You can apply online as soon as your admission reply form and enrollment deposit are received and processed. Assignments are issued in July and payment is due in early August. We strongly recommend that all students live on campus, particularly through the first two years.
March 1 is the priority deadline if you are applying for financial aid. Both the FAFSA and the CSS/PROFILE forms are available online. Please be sure to use the correct codes for UNC-Chapel Hill: 002974 for the FAFSA; 5816 for CSS/PROFILE. To be considered for a CCI computer grant, you must complete the CSS/PROFILE. Arrange to take the SAT Subject Test, Math 2. If you take the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB or BC and your score gives you credit for a higher placement, you will be able to adjust your math registration when the registration system opens on Saturday, August 18. For additional information, refer to http://www.admissions.unc.edu/faq/mathplacement.htm.
In order to facilitate your registration for fall classes while at CTOPS, read the First Year Guide (available online in May at www.advising.unc.edu) prior to arriving for summer orientation. You will receive a printed copy of the Guide when you arrive at CTOPS this summer.
How do I find out more about registering for classes? Go to the registrar's office website at: http://regweb.unc.edu/students/web_tutorial.php This tutorial should help you understand what you will be doing when you go to your Registration Session during CTOPS.
Is my enrollment deposit refundable if I decide not to attend Carolina? The enrollment deposit is applied to your tuition and fees bill. Your deposit is refundable only if you cancel your enrollment and request a refund from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by May 1. After May 1, the deposit cannot be refunded. If you have paid your deposit but decided that you do not want to attend Carolina, please notify the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in writing immediately. The housing application fee is non-refundable if you enroll at Carolina. The fee may be refunded if you cancel your enrollment and request a refund from Housing and Residential Education on or before July 1, 2008.
Will the cost of my education change?
It is important for parents and students to know that tuition and fees will increase over time. Over the last four years, annual increases in Carolina’s tuition and fees have averaged $317 (or 7.0 percent) for North Carolina students and $1,267 (or 7.2 percent) for out-of-state students. Those figures are comparable to annual increases at other public research universities, which during the same period have averaged $492 (or 7.5 percent) for resident students and $1,237 (or 6.7 percent) for non-resident students.
Any increases in tuition help fund important University priorities that strengthen the education we offer and that add value to a Carolina degree. In recent years, tuition increases have helped improve faculty salaries and academic advising and provide need-based financial aid. Any time tuition increases, we strengthen our funding for need-based aid, so that students who qualify for aid are fully protected from the impact of the increase.
We provide this information to assist students and their families in planning. In any given year, tuition increases may fall outside these ranges, depending on inflation, level of state funding, or other circumstances. Paying for your education need not be an obstacle to your enrollment. Through a combination of scholarships, grants, federal work-study funds, and loans, we meet 100 percent of demonstrated need for all enrolling students who apply for aid on time. The typical aid package includes 65% in grants and just 35% in loans. Regardless of your financial circumstances, we pledge to work with you to make your education as affordable as possible without the hardship of unreasonable debt.
